At the same time, companies are facing challenges in educating investors and administrating their internal operations during rapid growth. Some of the ways to overcome those obstacles and manage risk include effective management of operations and vertical integration, as well as diversification across geographic regions.

Mongolia provides a unique situation, says Alisher Ali Djumanov of Eurasia Capital, - it is plush with large amounts of untapped natural resources, has a small and widespread population, and is sandwiched between Russia and China. Despite its potential, poor infrastructure and the spread-out nature of its resource base has caused coal and copper to dominate Mongolia’s resource markets. The nation’s highly democratic political climate is a strength and a weakness, creating stability but also a lack of firm leadership. Overall, though, there is strong and growing interest in continuing to develop Mongolian natural resources in already prevalent markets.
